Teletherapy
When you’re meeting with me from home, a car, a park, or wherever you can get internet access, healing and growth suddenly becomes interwoven into your everyday life. Where you have your therapy session can start to become where you go to check-in with yourself outside of therapy. As your body starts to become more familiar with what’s possible when you’re in that space, you may find you are granted more and more access to your inner world.
For some people, the ability to meet from home allows them to face scary things with more ease because they’re already in the place they feel the safest. Want to wrap yourself up in your favorite blanket while you’re processing something? Not a problem! Do you feel comforted by the presence of a treasured animal friend? Bring that floof into the room. The sky’s the limit in terms of what tools you might reach for that are already available in your own space.
EMDR Therapy
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a type of therapy that helps people heal from the physical and emotional discomfort that are the result of distressing life experiences.
EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. When you cut your hand, your body works to close the wound. Similarly, the brain is capable of processing distressing thoughts and feelings to a state of mental health.
In EMDR therapy, the therapist will guide you in accessing distressing information stored in the body that is usually being reactivated by current life events. Using the detailed protocols and procedures that are a part of EMDR therapy, clinicians help clients activate their natural healing processes to heal the initial wounds and alleviate emotional reactivity to triggering experiences.
